Nesne Journal of Psychology: Writing and Publication Guidelines
Language of Publication
The languages of publication of Nesne Journal of Psychology are Turkish and English.
General Principles
Manuscripts submitted to Nesne are expected to contribute to universal science. The journal also publishes papers introducing scientists or announcing new events or publications, as well as interviews. For an article to be published in Nesne, it must not have been published or accepted for publication elsewhere. Papers presented at symposia, congresses or similar scientific meetings but not published, and studies derived from undergraduate or graduate theses, are accepted for publication provided that this information is stated in a note in the article.
Nesne is published twice a year, in June and December. Within one month of publication, the journal is sent to the libraries in Türkiye and abroad designated by the Publication Board, to international indexing organizations and to subscribers.
The copyright of manuscripts accepted for publication in Nesne is deemed to be transferred to Nesne Journal of Psychology. Responsibility for the views expressed in published articles rests with their authors. Texts and photographs in the journal may be quoted provided that the source is cited.
Researchers are obliged to comply with all practices of research and publication ethics in accordance with the ethical codes published by the American Psychological Association and the Turkish Psychological Association.
The data of every published study must be retained by the researcher for three years. In accordance with both our publication policy and the rules of international publishing organizations, the data and analysis programs of certain articles may occasionally be requested from their authors.
- Authors are responsible for the opinions expressed in their manuscripts.
- Material published in Nesne may be quoted only with citation of the source. Persons or organizations that quote and publish the material are responsible for any distortion of its content.
- The Publication Board may change words in a manuscript where it deems this necessary.
- Manuscripts that do not comply with the rules are not published.
Style Rules
Language. The languages of publication of Nesne Journal of Psychology are Turkish and English. In manuscripts prepared in Turkish, the spelling guide of the Turkish Language Association (Türk Dil Kurumu) should be followed, and Turkish words should be used in place of foreign words wherever possible. When words not commonly used in Turkish appear in a manuscript, their equivalent in the foreign language should be given in parentheses at first mention (Turkish and English).
Article format. Manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word on white A4 paper with top, bottom, right and left margins of 2.5 cm (a text area of 16 × 24.7 cm), in 11-point Times New Roman with 1.15 line spacing and 6 pt spacing between paragraphs, justified, as plain text. All manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the Nesne Journal of Psychology template. Manuscripts should contain the following sections: title, abstract (in Turkish and English), keywords, main text, references, appendices, tables, figure captions, figures and author notes.
Author information and article title. The author's name should be written below the article title; the author's position, institutional address and e-mail address should be given on the title page, linked to the surname by an asterisk. Only the article should be uploaded to the journal system. The title page should be sent by e-mail to nesnedergisi@yandex.com. Titles in Turkish and English should not exceed 10 to 14 words. The article title should appear on the first page of the article.
Abstract and keywords. The abstract should be given in both languages, Turkish and English, under the headings “Öz” and “Abstract”, and should be between 150 and 200 words. Keywords (between three and five) should be given below the Turkish abstract under the heading “Anahtar kelimeler” and below the English abstract under the heading “Keywords”.
Main text. The main text should begin on a new page. In empirical articles, the text should consist of the introduction, method, results and discussion sections, in that order. In review articles, this order may vary depending on the content of the article. In accordance with APA 7, a running head, that is, an abbreviated title in capital letters, should appear flush left in the header of every page, with the page number flush right. The title of the article should appear on the first page of the main text, and the text should begin with a paragraph after the title, without an “Introduction” subheading. The Method, Results and Discussion sections should not begin on a new page; when one section ends, the next should follow it on the same page.
The introduction should present the approaches and studies in the literature relevant to the research, and the aim of the study. Subheadings should be avoided.
The method section should consist of three subsections: sample, data collection instruments and procedure. The results should include the statistical analyses used to test the hypotheses of the study and the mean and standard deviation of each variable. Tables and figures should be given on separate pages at the end of the manuscript. In tables, means and standard deviations should be reported as M and SD in English-language manuscripts, and as “Ort.” and “S” in Turkish-language manuscripts.
The discussion should explain and discuss the findings of the study in the light of the literature.
References. The reference list should begin on a new page. All sources cited in the text must appear in the reference list, which should be prepared in accordance with the language of publication of the article. When citing sources in the text, the surnames of the authors and the year of publication are used, for example: Köksal (2011) …; according to Köksal (2011) …; Dils and Boroditsky (2010) …; according to Dils and Boroditsky (2010) …. For works with three or more authors, only the surname of the first author followed by “et al.” is given from the first citation onwards, for example Stallard et al. (2010). When more than one work is cited at the end of a sentence, the sources should be given in parentheses in alphabetical order, for example (Baggerly & Exum, 2008; Gil, 1991; Landreth, 2002). In the reference list, sources should be listed in alphabetical order.
Appendices, tables, figure captions and figures. The reference list is followed, in this order, by the tables, the figure captions and figures, and the appendices. Each of these sections should begin on a new page, and each table should be given on a separate page. The table number and table title should appear above the table, with the initial letters of words capitalized. Tables must be prepared with the Table function of Word and in accordance with the current version of APA style. Statistical findings in tables should be expressed with abbreviations. Figure numbers and figure captions should be given one below the other on the same page, with the initial letters of words capitalized, and each figure should be given on a separate page. Care should be taken that the total number of tables and figures does not exceed five or six. The appendices contain additional information such as the scales used in the study, a sample informed consent form and the ethics committee approval form.
Author notes. Author notes should appear on the title page. If the study is derived from a thesis, or is supported by one or more institutions, this should be stated in this section. Persons whom the researcher wishes to thank for their contributions to the study should also be named on the title page.
