Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between the anger expressions of the drivers in the traffic environment and the interpersonal relationship styles in social life. For this purpose, Driver Anger Expression Inventory (DAX), Driver Anger Scale (DAS), and Interpersonal Relationship Styles Scale (IRSS) were used. 678 (female, 47.1%, male, 52.9%) individuals who had been using a vehicle for at least one year constitute the sample group. The range of age was 19-65 years, the mean age was 32.22 (sd. = 10.23). As a result of analyzes, gender, number of accidents, km. per year, slow driving, illegal driving, and nutritional interpersonal relationship style were found as the predictors of adaptive / constructive expression of anger. The negative expression of anger (verbal, personal physical aggressive expression, and using of the vehicle to express anger) is predicted by gender, age, number of accidents, number of traffic fines received in the last five years, slow driving, presence of police, and inhibitory interpersonal style. In the last five years, compared to individuals who have received a traffic ticket and have not received; Driver Anger Scale total score, negative anger expression and inhibitory interpersonal style sub-dimension, the individuals who have traffic ticket get significantly higher scores. In conclusion, in this study, important clues can be obtained which can be used in trainings to change personal development and driver behaviour positively. For example, it would be useful to create anger management programs to enable drivers to become aware of the interpersonal styles they have, to learn how to manage their social skills training and anger to improve their interpersonal skills.
