Abstract
Neuropsychology is an applied science that examines the relationship between the brain and behavior. Neuropsychological assessment is a fundamental tool that reveals an individual's cognitive-behavioral profile through objective data and is particularly helpful in differential diagnosis. In this study, the objectives, approaches, and stages of implementation of neuropsychological assessment were examined within its fundamental methodological framework. Four principal approaches are prominent in neuropsychological assessment: the Luria Approach, which is based on qualitative case analysis; the Boston Process Approach, which focuses on the assessment procedure; the Fixed Battery Approach, which relies on standardized tests; and the Flexible Battery Approach, which emphasizes test selection according to the patient's clinical profile. Contemporary practice adopts an integrative model that synthesizes these methodologies. Moreover, digital tools, teleneuropsychology, and mobile applications are introducing new dimensions to assessment processes along with technological advancements. The neuropsychological assessment process comprises four fundamental stages: detailed data collection, selection and administration of an appropriate test battery, interpretation of obtained data within a clinical context, and preparation of a comprehensive report. The primary objective of this process extends beyond aiding diagnosis to include identifying an individual's cognitive or behavioral strengths and weaknesses, developing individualized rehabilitation planning, monitoring treatment efficacy, and providing practical recommendations to enhance the individual's daily functional capacity. In conclusion, neuropsychological assessment plays a crucial role in establishing cognitive-behavioral profiles and developing patient-centered treatment strategies for neurological, psychiatric, and developmental disorders.
