Abstract
The aim of the current study is to develop a scale in order to understand attitudes towards female drivers in traffic and to complete the validity and reliability studies of this scale. In this regard, a pool of 59 items was created by reviewing the relevant literature. A total of 333 participants, including 160 males and 173 females, took part in the study. The results of exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses showed that the Attitudes towards Female Drivers Scale consists of 15 items with a single-factor structure that explains 57.60% of the total variance. The Cronbach’s alpha internal consistency coefficient was found to be .94. To test the criterion validity, Driver Behavior Questionnaire, Driver Skill Inventory, and Driving Anger Expression Inventory were used. In addition, to test convergent validity, BEM Sex Role Inventory and Ambivalent Sexism Inventory were used. The results of correlation and regression analyses indicated that the Attitudes towards Female Drivers Scale is a valid and reliable measure that can be used in relevant literature and practice. The aim is for the research findings to contribute to the development of programs that bring about changes in attitudes towards female drivers in traffic and to reduce undesirable behaviors on the road.
