Öz
Büyüyen bir ilgi alanı olarak bireysel farklılıklar yaklaşımı, bilişsel süreçlerin daha detaylı bir şekilde incelenmesi için bireyler arasındaki farklılıklara odaklanmanın önemini vurgulamaktadır. Bu doğrultuda yapılan çalışmalar, göz hareketlerinin bireysel farklılıkların incelenmesine katkı sağlayan önemli bir performans çıktısı olduğunu göstermektedir. Bu derleme çalışmasında, göz izleme yönteminin okuma davranışında görülen bireysel farklılıkların ortaya çıkarılmasındaki rolü ele alınmaktadır. Bu amaç kapsamında, öncelikle göz izleme yöntemi, bileşenleri ve okuma çalışmalarındaki genel göz hareketi bulguları hakkında bilgi verilmektedir. Ardından okuma sırasında ölçülen göz hareketlerinin okuma becerisi, dil deneyimi, çalışma belleği kapasitesi, yaş ve cinsiyet gibi bireysel farklılıklarla ilişkisini ele alan çalışmalar özetlenmektedir. Genel olarak, okuma davranışında belirgin bireysel farklılıkların olduğu görülmekte ve göz izlemenin söz konusu farklılıkları ortaya çıkarması bakımından verimli bir yöntem olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Son olarak göz izleme yönteminden kaynaklanabilecek olası sorunlar tartışılmakta, alternatif çözüm önerileri sunulmakta ve okuma davranışındaki bireysel farklılık tespitinin pratik anlamda sunacağı katkı için göz izleme yöntemine olan ihtiyacın altı çizilmektedir.
