Öz

Bilişsel yetiler açısından en üst düzey canlı türü insanlardır. Ancak, insanların da bilişsel kapasiteleri sınırsız değildir. Bilişsel görevleri tamamlamak için iç ve dış kaynaklardan yararlanılmaktadır. Bilişsel boşaltım kavramı, bilişsel performansın arttırılması için kullanılan yöntemleri ifade etmektedir. Bu çalışma, henüz yeni sayılabilecek bilişsel boşaltım kavramı hakkında genel bir çerçeve sunarak bu kavramı Türk psikoloji alan yazınına kazandırmayı hedeflemektedir. Yapılan çalışmalar bilişsel boşaltımın sıklıkla kullanıldığını göstermektedir. Üst bilişsel süreçler tarafından yapılan değerlendirmeler ne zaman bilişsel boşaltım yapılacağına karar vermektedir. Ancak, üst bilişsel süreçler tarafından yapılan değerlendirmeler her zaman doğru olmamaktadır. Kimi zaman bilişsel sınırlılıklar abartılmakta ve ihtiyaç duyulmasa bile bilişsel boşaltıma başvurulmaktadır. Her ne kadar, bilişsel boşaltım performansın artmasına sebep olsa da bizi sahte bellek gibi çeşitli performans hatalarına da yatkın hale getirmektedir. Mevcut çalışmalar, insanların bilişsel süreçlerinin daha iyi anlaşılmasına yardım edecek pek çok çalışma için zemin hazırlamıştır. Bu konuda gelecekte yapılacak çalışmalar insan bilişlerinin anlaşılmasına ve bu yetinin daha etkili şekilde kullanılmasın olanak sağlayacaktır.
