Öz
İnsan sosyalliğinin en önemli parçalarından biri olan yalan söyleme davranışının hangi nedenlerle ortaya çıktığına ilişkin belirli toplumlarda çalışmaların yürütüldüğü bilinmektedir. Ancak Türkiye’deki yetişkinlerin hangi nedenlerle yalan söyledikleri konusunda çalışmaların yetersiz olduğu görülmektedir. Bu nedenle mevcut çalışmada, Türkiye’deki yetişkin insanların yalan söyleme nedenlerini ortaya çıkarmak hedeflenmiştir. Çalışmaya, yaşları 19 ile 46 arasında değişen (Ortyaş= 26.84) 75 kişi katılmıştır. Katılımcılara, kendi yararına ve başkası yararına söyledikleri yalanları ortaya çıkarmak amacıyla hazırlanmış açık uçlu dört sorudan oluşan bir soru formu verilmiştir. Verilerin analizinde niteliksel analiz tekniklerinden biri olan içerik analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular, en çok karşılaşılan kendi yararına yalan söyleme nedenlerinin mahremiyet, özerkliğe müdahale, imajını koruma, istediğini elde etme, olumsuz bir durumdan kaçınma, gerçeği gizleme ve geçiştirme olduğunu göstermiştir. Diğer yandan zararı önleme, başkasını koruma, mutlu etme, nezaket ve ilişkinin bozulmasını önleme ise en çok görülen başkası yararına yalan söyleme nedenleridir. Her bir yalan söyleme nedeni, yurt dışı alan yazın ile karşılaştırılarak tartışılmış, Türkiye’de bu konuda yapılacak sonraki çalışmalara ilişkin öneriler sunulmuştur.
