The aim of this study is to examine identity development in adolescence, which is one of the critical developmental periods of life, and the effect of helicopter parenting on the identity development process of adolescents. Within the scope of the study, the negative effects of helicopter parenting on adolescents and its characteristics that differ from other parenting styles are mentioned. Helicopter parenting is a parenting approach that is different from overprotective and controlling parenting styles with which it has many common points. Studies reveal the negative effects of such parenting behaviors on adolescents' identity development process. Although helicopter parenting behaviors are observed as early as infancy, they are most intense during adolescence. However, within the scope of the research, the effects of helicopter parenting during adolescence on adolescents' transition to adulthood are also taken into consideration and the effects of such parenting behaviors throughout the emerging adulthood are also discussed. For this purpose, previous studies in the literature were compiled, and the findings obtained as a result of the studies were discussed within this framework. With the findings obtained from many different databases, the effect of helicopter parenting on identity development in adolescence was examined and recommendations were presented. It is thought that this study will contribute to the literature on parenting attitudes and behaviors, child rearing styles, identity development and adolescence.
