1717272581 The Positive and Negative Ex-Relationship Thoughts (PANERT) Scale: Turkish Adaptation, Validity and Reliability Study

The aim of this study is to adapt the "The Positive and Negative Ex-Relationship Thoughts (PANERT) Scale” developed by Brenner and Vogel (2015) into Turkish culture and to conduct its validity and reliability studies. The research was conducted with a total of 367 participants, including 194 women (%53) and 173 men (%47), attending various departments of Dokuz Eylul University, Faculty of Education. Firstly, the language validity of the scale was examined. Afterwards, the three-factor structure of the scale was examined with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). According to the confirmatory factor analysis results, the chi-square value (χ2/sd=, p<.05) found for the two-dimensional structure of the scale; NFI (.96), CFI (.97), IFI (.97), GFI (..93) values indicate that the model has a good fit. These results showed that the two-factor structure of the PANERT scale was confirmed. Confirmatory factor analysis results indicated that the two-factor structure of the PANERT Scale-Turkish Form was confirmed. To determine the concurrent validity of the scale, the "Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale", "Fisher Divorce Adjustment Scale", and the "Rumination" subscale of the "Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire" were used as criteria. The reliability of the scale was calculated using the test-retest reliability coefficient and internal consistency coefficient. The Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient of the scale was calculated as 0.92 (p <.05) for the positive thoughts subscale and .91 (p <.05) for the negative thoughts subscale. Consequently, all findings suggest that “PANERT Scale-Turkish Form” is a valid and reliable measurement tool for emerging adults.
