Cancel culture refers to the actions carried out by the lynch mob to remove people whose posts and expressions are negatively received by the society and to erase their existence in various fields. In this article, it is aimed to introduce the cancel culture, which has become widespread especially in social media in recent years, and to address this concept from the perspective of social psychology. Cancel culture can lead to many negative consequences for those who are subjected to lynching. The article aims both to raise awareness of these negative consequences and to explain why people contribute to cancel culture. In this direction, firstly, cancel culture and the history of cancel culture are mentioned in the article. While doing this, concepts such as boycott, online shaming and vigilantism, which are related to cancel culture, are also included. Then, some social psychological variables such as mass psychology, social influence, diffusion of responsibility, anonymity, deindividuation and scapegoating are used to explain cancel culture. Afterwards, sample cases and research findings related to cancel culture are mentioned. In line with the findings of this research, it is recommended to conduct more correlational or experimental research on the subject in future studies. Finally, the negative consequences of cancel culture and some suggestions and precautions that can be taken against them are included. Keywords:
