1706705040 Adaptation of the Work Centrality Scale and Its Psychometric Properties to Turkish Culture: A Validity and Reliability Study

The purpose of this study is to adapt the Work Centrality Scale developed by Paullay et al. (1994) to Turkish culture in order to measure employees' beliefs about the importance of their jobs in their lives. Two studies were conducted in the research. In the first study, the Work Centrality Scale was administered to white-collar employees, and findings regarding item-total correlations, Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient, and exploratory factor analysis were presented. In the first study, which included 213 participants (MAge = 33.52, SD = 8.53), item-total correlations were examined, and two items with correlations below .30 were removed from the scale. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the scale was found to be .83. According to the findings of the exploratory factor analysis, the single-factor structure of the scale, as in its original form, was supported. In the second phase of the study, confirmatory factor analysis was conducted on data collected from 287 participants (MAge = 28.60, SD = 7.48) to validate the factor structure of the scale. The Job Stress Scale and Job Satisfaction Scale were used to assess the criterion validity of the study. When examining the fit indices obtained from the confirmatory factor analysis and the correlations between the variables used in the criterion validity, it was observed that the Work Centrality Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool. With the adaptation of the Work Centrality Scale to Turkish culture, it is anticipated that the work-centered life perceptions of employees in Turkey can be measured more accurately and in a manner that is culturally appropriate.
