1704138468 Climate Change Related Stressors and Coping Mechanisms: A Current Review

Climate change is considered one of the biggest threads of our age. It has attracted attention in recent years with various extraordinary natural events. In parallel, there is an increase in studies on the psychological consequences of climate change in the literature. The aim of this review is to add it to the Turkish literature throughout addressing the stress caused by climate change and the ways individuals and communities cope with it. Accordingly, in the first part of the review, studies addressing the stress caused by climate change are included. In the second section, research examining how individuals and communities cope with climate change is reviewed. In the third section, studies addressing young people's attitudes and coping styles towards climate change are evaluated. Lastly, the roles of psychologists in raising awareness and adaptation to climate change, which is turning into a climate crisis, are pointed out. Furthermore, with drawing attention to the gap in the literature in Türkiye, suggestions for future research are presented. It is thought that this article, which aims to convey current information about stress and coping with a focus on climate change, can contribute to the increase of both scientific studies and social awareness in our country.
